What Job Seekers Should Prioritize this Year

What Job Seekers Should Prioritize this Year Be aware of changing technologies and new competition to help you find a new job.

Now that Generation Z is entering the workforce, you need to know that the environment for job seekers has changed tremendously. It is more important than ever to be up-to-date with multiple social media platforms and the latest tech tools to give yourself the opportunity to connect with recruiters and hiring managers effectively.

Here are some tips to help:

1. Understand your new competition. Are you aware that boomerang employees are quite the trend at the moment? These employees are those who have previously worked for a company, then returned. More and more companies are more open to rehiring ex-employees because they don’t need to train them from scratch.

If you’re looking for work this year, realize that you’ll be competing against a talent pool of employee-referred candidates and internal candidates. Plus, because Generation Z is entering the workforce, you’ll need to accept the fact that there will be four or five generations competing for positions.

2. Ask for flexibility. More companies are open to the trend of letting employees structure a workday and where they can get their work done.

More tech companies are creating workplaces that are more family-friendly, balanced and flexible. If you want to have a flexible work arrangement, don’t be afraid to negotiate it.

3. Learn the art of social media presence carefully. Make sure you’re already familiar with Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. They show no signs of fading anytime soon. You can use these social media platforms to keep up with events and updates within your industry.

At the same time, make sure your profile looks professional, without negative or offensive posts. Hiring managers often check a candidate’s online presence to get to know him or her a bit better.

Having a negative profile can take you off their list of potential candidates. Your tweets or posts say a lot about you as an employee. Take control of your identity online to ensure a more polished and professional image.

4. Look for new gadgets. There are more devices available this year to help you retrieve information quickly. Smart watches are currently popular with Millennials and Gen Z. These gadgets can help you access more information to help you aid your job search.

You may want to join the technology bandwagon if you don’t want to miss out on any updates. Use these wearables and other new technology to your advantage to help you find a job that suits you perfectly.
