Unemployed But Not Unemployable

Unemployed But Not UnemployableHere's a phenomenon I've noticed.
It happens sometimes when you've been out of work for longer than you expected. It's one of those "head trash" issues that erodes your confidence.
You start out as unemployed.
You're looking for a job. You're back on the talent market.

There's nothing wrong with that.
(In fact, it can be a good thing. I get emails every week from Interview Success Formula and Dream Job Formula members who've bounced back from an unpleasant episode and landed a new job that: (a) paid more than their old job; (b) was more rewarding; and (c) had better prospects.)
But somewhere along the way -- in your mind at least -- "unemployed" becomes "unemployable" and folks start relating to themselves as a victim.
You might not even notice it.
Unemployed does NOT mean "unemployable".
Unemployed for a while doesn't mean "unemployable".
Unemployed for more than a year certainly doesn't mean "unemployable".
It means something you're doing isn't working. It means whatever strategies you're following to get yourself back into work again aren't bringing results. It means you need to change your approach and try something new.
Nothing more. Nothing less.
Don't ever forget that.
