Did You Create Your Elevator Pitch?

Did You Create Your Elevator PitchA few weeks ago, we spoke about why EVERY job seeker should have an elevator pitch  ("Memorize this word for word").

Hopefully, you've created one by now.

(If not, you might want to consider joining Dream Job Formula -- because, in this program, I take you through the process of: (a) determining what you want from your dream job; (b) figuring out your "unique selling point" as a candidate; and (c) putting together an elevator pitch, resume, and cover letter that work together to position you as a star candidate.)

If so, here's another thing you can do to improve your chances of landing a job and, also, to make you a stronger job seeker:

Share your elevator pitch with everyone you know.

Why?

Because if all your friends, former colleagues, neighbours, etc. know where you're headed, what kind of opportunities you're looking for, and how you can help others, you become a resource in their personal network.

They can introduce you to people they know.

They can talk about you.

They can listen out for opportunities that match what you're looking for.

So make a list of -- literally -- everyone you know, and make it your mission over the next 30 days to call or meet every person and delivery your pitch to them, one way or the other.

No, you don't need to awkwardly force them to listen to your pitch. Instead, have a regular conversation. When they ask about work, reply with your elevator pitch. (And, if saying your pitch doesn't feel natural to you, adjust it.)

Put a check box next to each name and cross them all off.

Remember, all it takes is for one guy or gal to say, "Kathleen, I know someone who's looking for someone like you. I must introduce you to them!", and your fortunes are radically changed.

Wouldn't you agree?
