5 Tips for Staying Organized during your Job Search

5 Tips for Staying Organized During your Job SearchThe job search process involves a lot of steps and logistics. It becomes even more complicated when you’re applying for several jobs at once. And because there’s just a lot of things to manage, staying on top of your stuff by being organized is paramount. After all, you won’t want to end up making unnecessary mistakes while working on landing your dream job.

Avoid getting too overwhelmed when juggling several job applications by following these helpful tips.

Use a system that will help you stay organized
Whether you resort to using a spreadsheet or you want to manually track everything in writing on a notebook, the important thing is you have a system to keep tabs on every detail of your job application. There’s no such thing as doing it right or wrong. The goal here is to make sure that all information is in one location so that you’re on top of everything.

You should have the names of the companies listed including their contact information. There should also be the schedules of your interviews, the steps you’ve already taken, when you should be doing the follow up, and so on.

Set a specific schedule for your job search
It doesn’t matter whether or not you’re still currently employed. Your job search should be done during a specific time each day or each week. The amount of time you spend for this activity may rely on your employment but you have to make sure you’re committed to sticking to your plan.

For example, you’re working from mondays to fridays and only have the weekends off. You can spend 2 to 3 hours every Saturday or Sunday. Or if you wish to do it during the weekdays, you can allocate at least an hour everyday to tackle things related to your job search.

Make your tracker easily accessible
You’ll never know when you’re getting the next phone call for the next interview and to make sure you don’t panic, make sure your tracker is with you at all times. Whether you’re using an app, a spreadsheet or a notebook, it’s imperative that you’re armed with the information you need when you need it.

Get rid of clutter
If you have a specific workspace for doing your job search like a table or desk, it’s important that you keep it organized and clutter-free. It would be difficult to keep your thoughts clear when you’re surrounded with chaos. Take time to throw away unnecessary stuff from your workspace. Keep it as neat as possible to avoid misplacing information or important files.

Be selective in your job search
One of the reasons why some people get overwhelmed with the job search process is because they apply for one too many jobs they’re not even sure if they’re qualified for. Narrow down your options and increase your chances of getting hired by applying for the right positions. This will allow you fewer resumes to furnish and job applications to track.

It’s easy to get disorganized when you have several job applications you’re trying to manage all at once. But with the help of these tips, you can keep everything in order and stay on top of your journey to landing your next career.
