A wise woman once told me, looking for a job is like being a boxer.
How?
Before you put your gloves on and step into the ring, you need to accept that you will get punched in the face – many, many times – and it’s going to hurt.
That’s what it takes to triumph.
Likewise, when you put yourself out there and apply for jobs, you need to accept that you’re going to be passed over – many, many times – and it’s going to frustrate you, make you angry, and make you feel like giving up.
But powering through this adversity is what it takes to land your dream job.
So don’t give up.
If an HR rep, or interview, or hiring manager, or recruiter deals you a painful blow, pick yourself up and get back into the fight. Why? Because THIS is the attitude that will get you your dream job. Trust me.
Here’s a quote from Rocky Balboa that perfectly sums up this attitude:
Let me tell you something you already know.
The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it.
You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life.
But it ain’t how hard you hit; it’s about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done.
Now, if you know what you’re worth, then go out and get what you’re worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hit, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you are because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain’t you. You’re better than that.
