6 Tips to Help You with Your Job SearchTrying to find an ideal job, the one that’s fulfilling and rewarding in many different ways, isn’t a walk in the park. And if you’ve been doing it for quite a while now, you’d understand why. Despite the insane amount of time you spend on furnishing your resume, submitting applications and attending interviews, it feels like landing a great job is a far-fetched dream.

But don’t lose heart. Here are some tips you might find useful for an effective job search.

Decide on what you want
Before you even begin searching for jobs and submitting applications, it’s imperative that you have already decided on the career you want. What kind of job do you want to land? What are your strengths and weaknesses? What special skills can you offer? By knowing what you want, you are more likely to find the job that can provide you greater satisfaction.

Research your potential employers and companies
Now that you have figured out your dream career, it’s time to conduct your research about the employers and companies you’re eyeing. Find out more about their culture, the qualities of the people they hire, what they ask during the interview, compensation and benefits and so on. Which of these companies can better provide the things you’re looking for in an ideal job? Will they help you in your long term career plan?

Prepare your resume
A polished resume is one of the most important things you need to prepare for during a job search. However, it’s also best if your resume is tailored to each job opening. Make sure it’s relevant to the job you’re applying for. Indicate and highlight the skills that qualify for that particular post as this will help the hiring manager see that you’ve got what it takes for the job.

Update your social profiles
When was the last time you’ve updated your LinkedIn profile? If you’re looking into landing a job ASAP, be sure your LinkedIn is updated. Log in to your account more often and keep your information current. This will allow employers and hiring managers to easily search for you. You may also consider being proactive in reaching out to recruiters yourself to increase your chances of finding a job soon.

Build your online career brand
If you are an applicant who’s confident about what you can bring into the company and has established your personal branding, then you’ve got an edge over the other candidates. Invest time in developing a personal brand online not only in LinkedIn but in your other socials. Showcase your expertise online, engage in activities supporting your brand, create business cards for yourself and so on.

A bigger network could be your door to bigger opportunities. Be sure to invest time in building and expanding your network. Use your network of contacts both online and in person to help you in your job search. Don’t hesitate to reach out to them because if they can’t help you by giving you an employment opportunity, they can at least help you with referrals.
