Losing a job and having to find a new one is always stressful. It’s not easy finding a job in a tough economy in which hundreds of applicants are ready to fill the position that you want.
The stress is sometimes amplified because of countless rejections. Sometimes these rejections are not even because you’re unqualified—it might be because you’re not prepared. If you want to put a stop to the rejections, here are some things you should show your potential employer.
Signs of expertise or the ability to learn and adapt – Every employer wants to have a worker who can perform and excel from day one, or at least can learn and adapt to new situations. Employers are less likely to hire someone whom they need to train—unless that’s exactly what they’re looking for—but most businesses want someone who can make an immediate impact. It’s also important to show that you can fit in any situation you’re put into, because in business things change fast; if you can’t keep up, there are others who will.
Proof of dependability – An employer wants someone who has the skills and expertise to help their business grow, but dependability is also a skill that’s highly valued. Employers are looking for people who will love and value their business just as much as they do. If you can show that you have this key trait, then you are already one up on your competition.
Punctuality – Another key trait that employers love to see in their potential employees is punctuality. In your interview, show your employer the commitment you made in your previous jobs. Remember to be early to your interview; it might not be a major factor, but it’s a good first step on your way to landing the job.
