Top Healthcare AdministratorAs a healthcare professional, you should always be efficient and actively focused on providing proper care and attention. In order to achieve this, you’ll need to have a particular set of skills.

Now, when you’re applying for a job as a healthcare manager, and the question is, “What are the top three skills a healthcare administrator should have in order to be successful?” what should your answer be?

First, you’ll need to prepare by thinking of an answer beforehand. Usually you’ll have few days to get ready before an interview, so you might want to include this in your list of possible questions. This still leaves us with the question of what you should include in your answer. So, here are the three skills a healthcare administrator should have:

1. Leadership and Management Skills

You need to have the ability to create a shared vision and inspire your entire team. You must be able to create and implement your operational skills while remaining mindful of your team’s performance, commitment and motivation. Additionally, you have to delegate tasks and handle time and stress management well.

2. Organizational Skills and Business Skills

You must have the ability to organize and implement your plans. You need to be innovative and have a strong grasp of business principles. You must also be analytical – know how to budget and how to manage financial and human resources. You need to have a strategic way of thinking, and you should be a strong decision maker.

3. Communication and Relational Skills

Aside from having leadership and planning skills, you also need to be an effective communicator. As a healthcare executive, you should be able to communicate clearly and courteously with patients, customers, industry leaders, partners, department heads, and hospital workers. You should know how to create meaningful relations with peers and promote constructive interaction between individuals and groups in all situations.

After reviewing these three skills, you are now ready to answer the interviewer. You just have to relax and be confident about your answer. Don’t make your explanation too long. A simple yet concise answer is the best way to convey your message. You’ve got the skills; now it’s just a matter of letting the interviewer know it.
