Interview Question: How Long Do You Expect to Remain With This Company?

2 min read · By admin · March 23, 2026

How Long Do You Expect to Remain With This CompanyBe prepared to respond to this question professionally in order to frame your response in a positive way.

This question is usually asked to uncover those people who move between jobs frequently. Since the hiring process costs a lot, companies are looking for those who plan on staying a long time.

Companies that are looking for long-term employees aren’t likely to be impressed with those who only want a job that they’ll leave within a few months. When responding, include favorable commentary about the employer and the role you would play in order to create a positive image.

Don’t forget to note specific aspects of the job which you find appealing and why you picture yourself working for the company for years to come.

Short Sample Answers

  • “Since I’ve been working and gaining experience to get into this company, I’d like to stay a long time if I’m offered the job, since this is where I want to be.“
  • “As long as there’s a lot of work to do, then I’d be happy to stay for a long time. Since I’m a busybody, I like to being productive most of the time.”
  • “I plan on staying for a long time if I’m offered the job. This company has everything that I’m looking for. It provides the type of work I love, the employees look productive and happy, and the environment is just what I’m looking for.”
  • “As long as I am having a positive impact, I would love to work for the company over the long term — it has the capacity to offer me a rich and fulfilling career.”
  • “I would like to continue working for this company as long as my services are needed.”
  • “Since I enjoy this type of work, I’m looking for a long-term position if thereare opportunities for advancement and growth.”

Be optimistic, clear, and honest. If there are any compelling reasons why you don’t think you would stay on the job, avoid using language that would lead the interviewer to believe that you want to be with the company long term if you sense that’s what he or she is looking for. If you do want the job, let your genuine enthusiasm come through.
